Information We Collect About Website Visitors

In the course of providing the best service to our users, FMF collects two types of information about our visitors:

  1. Information by which a person may be personally identified: We collect email addresses provided to us by visitors wishing to become a member of the GNS community, allowing them to subscribe to easily republish stories and subscribe to GNS RSS feeds and newsletters via email.
  2. Information that is about Website visitors and email recipients but does not identify those visitors: We collect aggregate statistical data used to track site usage. We also collect data on whether email recipients open and view emails that we send to them.

How We Collect Information About Website Visitors and How We Use This Information

Browsing, reading or downloading

When you browse, read or download from the Website, FMF does not collect or store your email address or your name or other address unless you voluntarily provide it to FMF.

When you browse, read pages or download information on the Website, FMF aggregates data about your visit. The purpose of this data collection is to count how many people come to the Website, which countries they come from, which pages they view, etc. This data-collection process does not enable FMF to discern who you are, only that a computer with a specific number is accessing the web server. The software we use to create reports from this data relies on a standard browser feature called a cookie to track which web pages visitors view on the Website. These cookies are assigned at random with each newly created visitor session and are deleted after the visitor leaves the Website. Reports generated by this data collection are used internally to improve the site and provide better value to our users based on their news-consumption patterns.

If You Send Us Personal Information…

We do not store any personal data about you other than the information you provide to us if you register as a member of our Website, and we only use your email address to send you the newsletters to which you have subscribed. Your email address is protected with us, and it will never be used for any other purposes other than those for which you provided us this information.

If you choose to provide us with personal information by sending an email to us, or by filling out a form with your personal information and submitting it through our Website, we use that information to respond to your message and to help us get the information you have requested.

In addition, to help to improve our service, GNS will send out an occasional survey to solicit feedback from news partners using the email address you provide. We do not collect personal information for any other purposes. Moreover, we do not create individual profiles with the information you provide or give this information to any private organizations. Nor do we collect information for commercial marketing.

We do not store any personal data about you besides your email address. We only use your email address to send you the newsletters to which you have subscribed and to send out the occasional survey mentioned above. Your email address is protected with us and it will never be used for any other purposes.

If you no longer wish to receive emails from GNS, you can opt-out at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email from us or by sending us an email stating your request to help@gnsnews.org.

Disclosure of Personal Information

If you have any questions regarding your data privacy or deletion, please do not hesitate to contact us at help@gnsnews.org.

In the event of a merger, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution or transfer of some or all of FMF assets, we may share personal information to a successor about our Website users among the assets transferred.

We may also disclose personal information to comply with any court order, law, or legal process, including to respond to any government or regulatory request or to enforce or apply our Terms of Use. In addition, we may disclose personal information if we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to protect the rights, property, or safety of FMF, our members, or others.
